A few reminders...

Hi there!

It's not too late to finish your summer reading! A few of you have most of your points, but need one or two to complete summer reading. Some of you are finished! If you want to know your status, send me an email at vmsreads@yahoo.com

Also, you can still submit through this blog, but if I can't figure out who you are because your blog name is way different then your real name, send me an email and privately tell me who you are. For example, I have a blogger named $$$$$$$$$$$ and I don't know who you are! Also, I don't know who bubblesbuddy6603 or poorbearjulie101 are. I understand not wanting to write your name on a blog - but please email me who you are so I can give you credit.

Another way to submit work is through your language arts teacher next week! Thanks and keep up the good work!

Earning the points and getting credit

Many of you are curious about how this point earning is going to work... I'm keeping track of the different blog comments and emails that have been coming in over the summer.

Sometimes your book reviews are in email and sometimes they are comments on the blog - either way that's fantastic and you earn 3 points per review. If you do three reviews, I'll round up and give you 10 points and you are done for the summer! I know there is a difference in the points on the website and that is my mistake. I can only edit the website from school and I haven't been there since June.

When you do the different graphic organizers, you can email them as an attachment, email me your answers, or turn them during the first week of school. Either option you pick is ok with me.

If you have your own blog, email me the address - I would love to take a look and get you the points. (VMSreads@yahoo.com)

Overall, I'm impressed with you guys and I can't wait to meet you at the summer reading celebration! Feel free to leave questions/comments. I promise to be more on the ball in these last few weeks of summer!

Programs at the library? And other random comments...

Hi there, I'm embarrassed to admit that it is 2 months since I've blogged. If the truth be known, it's because I'm in lazy summer mode. I've been reading a ton of books (how about you??). I love bringing a book to the beach or floating in the pool with a book.

I've been to the library several times to get more books. Has anyone attended any of the programs? I walked by one about cartooning and another about sharks. Were any of you guys there? If so, you could leave a comment and tell us how it was!

Many of you have emailed me your book reviews. You guys are doing a great job with those. I would like to share them in the media center through out the year. You guys are reading such a variety of books and you've peaked my interest about several of them.

We have a little over a month until school starts - so keep reading! Email if you have any questions!! vmsreads@yahoo.com

What is a book review?

A book review is very different from a book report! A book review is a chance for you to tell us a little about a book you have read and whether or not you would recommend we read it!

When a good reader finishes a book he or she wants to talk about the book. This is your chance to share you opinion with others.

The following things need to be included in your book review:
1. Title, author, subject and genre.

2. A brief description and summary of the book. This should resemble the type of summary found on the back of a book. DO NOT COPY FROM A WEBSITE OR THE BACK OF THE BOOK! Use your own words.

3. Your opinion of the book. Some things to consider are...
  • What did you like about the book?
  • What did you not like about the book?
  • Who would enjoy reading this book?
  • Does this book remind you any other books?
  • Would you read other books by this author?

REMEMBER, YOU WILL NOT GET CREDIT IF YOU COPY YOUR WORK FROM SOMEONE ELSE, A WEBSITE, OR THE BACK OF A BOOK!!
